We’ve checked over 20,000 products against our ingredient standard. Around 90% failed — they’re not in the database. Every product the bot recommends has been individually reviewed before it was added. Not batch-approved, not brand-approved — product by product.
A hard-flagged ingredient means the product doesn’t make it into our database — full stop. Harmful parabens (propylparaben and butylparaben), PFAS, microplastics, and anything on the EU restricted list are hard flags. A soft-flagged ingredient is fine for most people but may cause irritation for sensitive skin. If a product has a soft flag the bot will tell you, and can suggest a cleaner alternative.
Many brands deliberately omit or truncate ingredient lists on Amazon listings to avoid hitting ingredient filters. It’s a known workaround. The full INCI list is often buried, missing entirely, or listed differently to what’s on the physical product. We go to primary sources — brand websites, CPNP filings, and where necessary direct contact — not marketplace listings.
Greenwashing is when a brand uses marketing language — “natural”, “clean”, “eco-friendly”, “dermatologist tested” — to give the impression a product is safer or better than it is. The words mean nothing without the ingredient list to back them up. Our vetting ignores all marketing claims entirely. We look at what’s actually in the product, nothing else.
Influencers recommend products they love — but many are also paid to promote them, which makes it hard to know where the opinion ends and the sponsorship begins. The bot is different — no brand pays us to recommend their products. Some links on the site are affiliate links, but that never influences what gets recommended. A product either passes our ingredient standard or it doesn’t. Ingredients are the only filter.
Be specific — tell it your skin type, what you’re looking for, and your budget. The more context you give it, the better the recommendation. You can also ask it to explain an ingredient, compare two products, or suggest alternatives if you already have something in mind.
